Reverse: The reverse features Britannia, seated  left, holding a trident. The legend reads:- ONE PENNY 1938

King George VI reigned from 1936-1952. He became King, after King Edward VIII abdicated his throne to marry Mrs Simpson. King Edward VIII was crowned on January 20, 1936, and his abdication was on December 11, 1936.
